Panic attacks are due to anxiety.

A panic attack can sometimes be controlled by deep breathing exercises, as it stops you from hyperventilating which is caused by anxiety. The hyperventilating is what causes the panic attack, so just break the cycle.

The longer term solution is to get therapy and confront what is causing your anxiety.

Although it can be a pain to make a dr. appointment.. call and make one. If you are on a daily dose of lexpro do not stop taking it until you see your dr. they have so many other medications for anxiety. differnet thing swork for diferent people… bottom line. dont let anyone tell you one thing is better than the other.. it all depends on YOUR body what will work… ( just so you know) Call you dr. today and let them know its not working, you might need something else, and yes a therapist might be able to help you with some excercises you can learn to help control them. I went to one, and it sounds corny, but it really helps. Good luck.

It can take a while for a drug like Lexapro to kick in fully. Some doctors say to try it at least 30 days, others say 60 days. If you gave it enough time and still don’t see any reliefe then you can ask your doctor about a higher dose or trying another medication. Also, I agree with the other person who answered that you need to address the problem in therapy. Panic attacks often relate to feeling that you are not in control. In therapy you can identify the trigger situations that leave you feeling powerless and try to address the issues causing the powerlessness. Also, cut any and all CAFFEINE out of your diet, it adds to the anxiety, get enough sleep and try to exercise. Exercise can help burn off the anxious energy.

I was prescribed lexapro for a long time and it did not give me required results. I stopped taking it and i also stopped going to docs any more. One of my friends suggested me to take the "panic away " course which requires no phills and medics, they will provide you tricks and tips to end panic attacks and feel healthy. It improves you in different ways and i have taken it and i am really happy with that and my mother also had and she is feeling very good now.
I would suggest you to go for it right now

I don’t know anything about lexapro, but my doctor prescribed Buspar for me and it worked immediately. You might want to ask about changing your meds.

I have also found that when I start to have a panic attack, if I concnetrate on something else – something that makes me happy – the panic attack goes away really fast.
